12v Silicone Heating Pad With Thermostat
12v silicone heating pad with thermostat is strong and durable, yet thin, light and flexible. The uses of these heaters are limited only by imagination. Heat can be placed where it is needed. These silicone heaters improve heat transfer, speed up warm-up and reduce wattage requirements. Fiberglass reinforced silicone rubber gives the heater dimensional stability without sacrificing flexibility. Heat transfer is fast and efficient because there is very little material separating the element from the part. Silicone rubber heaters are constructed with either a wire wound element or an etched foil element. This heater construction creates a very thin heater, making it suitable for applications where space is limited.
An uncured silicone rubber heater is placed over the metal part and then placed into a vacuum oven where the heater vulcanizes and adheres to the part in a single operation. This process forms an extremely strong, permanent bond with most metals because the silicone rubber flows into and fills the microstructure of the metal surface.
Flexible heaters can be applied by clamping or compressing between two rigid materials. The board surface must be sanded fairly smooth. Care must be taken not to damage the heater or puncture the insulation. Mill an area or cutout in the top plate to increase the thickness in the lead exit area.
Installation Methods
Pressure Sensitive Adhesive
An easy installation method is peel and stick. Attaches directly to one side of the heater. Simply peel off the protective liner and attach the heater to the desired tool. It is not recommended for use on curved surfaces. The heater should be installed within 6 months of manufacture.
Factory Vulcanized
Another installation method is to send your tool to the factory. The tool is placed in a vacuum container and the SRH is vulcanized directly to the tool. This is the strongest bond.
Field Applied Adhesive
The SRH can also be attached with a field applied adhesive; Marathon Heater will provide the required RTV to adhere the heater to the desired surface. We provide a room temperature curing adhesive. Apply a thin layer of RTV to the entire bottom of the heater. After placing the heater on the part, use a roller to remove all air between the heater and the part. The RTV should be allowed to cure for 24 hours.
